Why Language, Literature and Education at the UvA?

Unique combination

The programme offers a unique interdisciplinary approach combining linguistics and literature courses in your target language with courses in language and literature (teaching).

Seven language specialisations

Students may choose one of seven language specialisations: English, French, German, Italian, Scandinavian, Slavonic and Spanish.

Internship possible

As part of your elective space, you can do an internship to gain work experience.

Is this programme right for you?

  1. You have good research skills at Bachelor’s level, and you are able to conduct research independently, such as collecting material, applying theory, and writing a thesis.
  2. You desire to contribute proactively and critically to an academic and interdisciplinary environment within the Graduate School of Humanities, as demonstrated in a convincing motivation letter.
  3. You want an academic backbone for a teaching career. However, this programme does not offer a teaching qualification. For this, you can consider a one-year teacher training programme (in Dutch).

Degree certificate

Language, Literature and Education is a programme of the accredited Master’s programme Linguistics. After successful completion of this programme, you will receive a legally accredited Master’s degree in Linguistics and the title Master of Arts (MA).
