Prof. Marcel Peeters (Amsterdam Law School), Professor of Derivatives Law

Marcel Peeters is Professor of Derivatives Law at the University of Amsterdam. He is not only a lawyer but also an economist. He received his PhD in economics from the University of Cambridge in 1984 and held lectureships in economics before switching to the legal profession in the mid-1990s. He practised initially at Houthoff Buruma and then at NautaDutilh, where he became a specialist in financial law (both private law and regulatory), with a particular focus on derivatives law. At the Amsterdam Law School, he lectures on financial law and regulation, corporate finance and derivatives.

Prof. Enrico Perotti (Amsterdam Business School), Professor of International Finance

Enrico Perotti is Professor of International Finance at the University of Amsterdam. After his doctorate in finance at MIT, Enrico Perotti taught at Boston University and LSE before becoming Professor of International Finance at Amsterdam Business School.  His research in banking and corporate finance, organization theory, political economy, legal and financial history keeps appearing in top journals. His policy focus is on banking regulation. He has been advisor in financial stability to the ECB, EC, IMF, DNB, Bank of England, the World Bank and the UK Treasury. He was the Bank of England Houblon-Normal Fellow for 2011-12, and 2015 Duisenberg Fellow at the ECB.

Prof. René Smits, Professor of the Law of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU)

René Smits is Professor of the Law of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) at the University of Amsterdam. He is a consultant on EMU law and banking regulation, an alternate member of the Administrative Board of Review of the European Central Bank and an Assessor at the Belgian Competition Authority. He studied sociology and law at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Previously, he was general counsel at the Dutch central bank, member of the legal committee at the European System of Central Banks and chief legal counsel at the Netherlands Competition Authority. He published widely on EMU law, including a monograph (1997) on the institutional aspects of the European Central Bank.

Prof. Rolef de Weijs (Amsterdam Law School), Professor of National and International Insolvency Law

Rolef de Weijs is Professor of National and International Insolvency Law at the University of Amsterdam. He holds degrees in law and philosophy from Groningen University and a law degree from Harvard Law School. He obtained his PhD in law from the University of Amsterdam. De Weijs works at the law firm Houthoff as an attorney and as a court appointed trustee.

Rolef de Weijs has been voted 2019 Lecturer of the Year for the Amsterdam Law School by its students. 'Rolef de Weijs is one of the most dedicated lecturers I have ever had! He knows all of the students' names, detailed histories and where they work' and 'Rolef inspires students to get involved in scientific debate', according to two of the students who voted.
