Study programme

The curriculum of the minor Econometrics and Mathematical Economics consists of compulsory courses with a study load of 24 EC. You supplement these courses with 6 EC in restricted-choice electives. The minor can be finished within 1 semester (semester 2).

Continue your studies with a Master's degree

In combination with the successful completion of your Bachelor’s programme, this minor gives you direct access to the Master’s in Econometrics. However, for some of the specialisations of the Master’s programme in Econometrics it is recommended to add courses:

  • For the Financial Econometrics specialisation it is strongly recommended to follow the course Mathematical and Empirical Finance (6012B0287Y).
  • For the Econometrics and Policy Analysis specialisation it is recommended to follow the course Dynamical Systems (6012B0380Y).
  • For the Data Analytics specialisation it is recommended to follow a course in databases at Bachelor's level and courses on Operations Research.

Entry requirements

You can apply for the minor if:

  • You have obtained at least 60 ECTS from university-level courses at the time of application.
  • If you are a Bachelor student Mathematics or are following an equivalent science programme at a university-level.
  • You meet the following three requirements: ​At least 10 EC of courses on probability and statistics at a BSc Mathematics level. From these 10 EC, at least 5 EC has to be on second or third year level; At least 5 EC on linear algebra; At least 15 EC on courses in mathematical analysis/calculus.
  • No prior knowledge on Economics is necessary.
  • This minor is not open to students of Economics and Business.

When applying, please submit:

  • a signed and stamped extract of your study results (for non-UvA students).  
  • a list of marks (for UvA students).  

Application and Admission

For the academic year 2025–2026, you can apply from 13 October to 7 November. There is no limit on the number of places for this minor, but selection will be based on your study background.
