Minor

Global Health, Care and Society

The minor Global Health, Care and Society offers an interdisciplinary programme with a focus on the theme of health and (health)care from its broadest, "biosocial" perspective, with a particular focus on the gendered dynamics around health and (health)care. Health and (health)care are attributes people have, activities they perform, as well as relationships formed in families, organisations, markets and communities.

This minor is for students who are interested in:

  • the economic, political, cultural and scientific dimensions of health and (health) care, with a particular focus on the gender dynamics at play
  • social determinants of health
  • cultural and historical diversity of ideas about health, illness and (health) care
  • globalisation of infectious and chronic diseases
  • relationships between sexuality and health

Entry Requirements

You can apply for this minor if you are a Bachelor’s student and have obtained at least 60 ECTS from 
university-level courses at the time of application.

Application and Admission

The registration period for a minor in the academic year 2025-2026 is 1 April - 13 May 2025.

You are guaranteed placement if you apply and meet the entry requirements. There is no limit on the number of places.

Non-UvA-students

This minor is part of Bachelor's Interdisciplinaire sociale wetenschap. For your registration as an elective student, select the ‘Interdisciplinaire sociale wetenschap’ - elective degree programme in Studielink.

Please note that non-UvA students need to upload a transcript of grades. (This does not apply to UvA students.)
