Learn to solve complex business issues
How should businesses respond to the opportunities of new technology, digital business and globalisation? Why are some companies successful in developing new products and markets while others are not? How can you manage teams and employees effectively?
The field of Business Administration hands us both substantiated models and new management ideas to answer these questions from different perspectives. During your 18 months with us, you will delve deeply into their origins, and discover what their possibilities and limitations are.
Together, we will discover and discuss – through real business cases – how these theories and models can help you to make better decisions on strategic and operational business problems.
To solve complex business issues, you need thorough analytical skills and the ability to collaborate with other disciplines. Guest lectures in Royal Theatre Carré
Each year in September, the extraordinary Royal Theatre Carré is the location for our Business in Society course (one of our general courses). Expect C-suite managers of high-profile companies who share the issues which are at their table at that moment.
In recent years, students attended guest lectures on contemporary topics such as ‘Disruptive Technologies, Business and Society’ (by CEOs of Vodafone, Ziggo and Philips) and ‘The Business of Doing Good’ (by the CCO of Tony Chocolonely and the founder of Instock).
During the last semester, you will explore a subject relevant to your organisation or the industry in which you work; exciting, since your employer will be able to profit directly from your research results. One of our lecturers specialised in the field (track) of your choice will supervise your work.
While the content of the core courses was largely theoretical, in a number of assignments we had the opportunity to conduct case studies and write proposals for challenges faced by real companies.Grace Chen, EVBox Read Grace's testimonial
Lectures on Fridays
During the programme, you only attend lectures on Fridays between 9:00 and 17:00: 2 lectures, each taking more or less 3 hours. This fact means that you have one day per week where you can fully focus on your studies, together with your fellow students. All lectures will be held on the Roeterseiland Campus in Amsterdam.
Study load per week
Our part-time Master Executive Programme in Management Studies has a duration of 18 months. In total, you will spend about 20 to 22 hours per week on the programme, including the lectures on Fridays. A pre-Master's programme has a duration of a maximum of 6 months with a similar study load or less.
Lectures: +/- 6 hours per week
Self-study: 14 - 16 hours
Each academic year has 2 semesters, both divided into 3 blocks.
First semester: September - January
Second semester: February - June
A team of dedicated academic experts will teach the programme. Our academic lecturers actively participate in scientific research and monitor recent developments in their respective fields, connecting you with the most advanced techniques, practices and insights. On top of that, you will meet enthusiastic industry experts, who are invited to supervise guest lectures and teach electives.
Lectures are commonly provided to small groups of students, ensuring interactive education and giving you plenty opportunity to ask individual questions as well as discuss answers with lecturers and fellow students. You will also attend lectures given to larger groups.
During the intensive programme, you will learn and work together with motivated fellow students. Together, you are a well-balanced mix of nationalities with different views and opinions, who are working in a wide variety of industries. All this will offer you the opportunity to widen your perspective and have a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience.
