Loek Foster (Netherlands)
‘Trade and domestic regulation are a particular interest of mine. Studying how national legislation affects the market access of imported products is interesting, relevant and challenging. The final exam of this course is an essay on a topic of your own choice; you are free to write on a wide range of trade-related subjects. Most legal degree programmes are quite large scale, but this isn’t the case with International Trade and Investment Law at the University of Amsterdam. The small group of students representing many different nationalities makes for an intimate and friendly atmosphere, and this includes the teachers and course directors as well.’
Yenny Mak (Netherlands)
‘I was looking for an international Law Master’s with an economic aspect. This programme seemed interesting and suited my interests in corporate law. The overall experience exceeded my expectations. It was nice how interconnected the different courses were. It is not as relevant for corporate law as I had thought, but investment law is very relevant for commercial arbitration.
I was given the opportunity to participate in the ELSA Moot Court on WTO Law and learned a lot from it, not just in terms of legal knowledge, but also bringing the theory into practice and networking skills. I even made friends for life. While practicing with previous participants for the moot court, I visited Linklaters in Amsterdam. I applied for an internship and stuck around for a job.’
