The Faculty of Science at the University of Amsterdam is pleased to announce the selection of the first cohort of fellows in the Global South Fellowship Scheme. This initiative supports visiting researchers from the Global South to spend several months at the faculty, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and long-term partnerships.

Following a highly competitive selection process, five fellowships have been awarded for 2026. During their stay, fellows will work closely with UvA colleagues across the faculty’s institutes, working on new research projects and strengthening global academic networks.

The selected fellows are:

  • Hope Thendo Mudau — University of Cape Town, South Africa
    Visit: 14 April – 11 July 2026

  • Naoufel Salhi — Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, University of Kairouan, Tunisia
    Visit: 15 June – 30 August 2026
    Host institute: KdVI (co-applicant: Asma Khedher)
  • Grite Nelson — Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology, Tanzania
    Visit: 16 May – 7 July 2026 and November 2026
    Host institute: IBED (co-applicant: Naima Starkloff)
  • Pradeep Kumar Mohanty — Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata, India
    Visit: March – May 2026 and September – December 2026
    Host institute: DIEP (co-applicant: Jacome Armas)
  • Malebogo Ngoepe & Qudus Jimoh-Taiwo — University of Cape Town, South Africa
    Visit: October – November 2026
    Host institute: IvI (co-applicant: Alfons Hoekstra)

The Global South Fellowship Scheme is part of the faculty’s broader Global South Plan, which aims to build sustainable and equitable collaborations with institutions worldwide.
