Refugee work experience programme: ReLink

If you are a refugee living in Amsterdam, and you hold at least a Bachelor’s degree, you may be eligible to join the UvA’s work experience programme, ReLink. Gain work experience in a Dutch-speaking workplace and improve your chances of getting a job in the Netherlands.

Work placement

If you are selected to participate, you will be offered a work experience position at the UvA. Most positions are in the area of support services.

  • You will work at the UvA for 2-4 days per week over a six-month period.
  • Each year, we run two groups (6-8 participants per group). The first group runs from January to June, the second from about June until December.
  • You will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the six-month period.

Benefits of participating

In addition to gaining work experience in the Netherlands, you will also benefit from:

  • Dutch language coaching sessions, with a focus on terms and words often used in the workplace. 
  • Career orientation workshops to build knowledge and skills that will help you to get a job in the Netherlands.
  • MS Office training to give you essential skills in Excel, Word and Outlook.

Unpaid volunteer position

Participation in ReLink is voluntary and unpaid. During the work placement, you will continue to receive benefits from the Dutch government (uitkering). You will be encouraged to look for paid work both during and after the programme.

Selection criteria

You can apply to ReLink if you:

  • Live in Amsterdam
  • Hold a residence permit that was issued within the last four years
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree (minimum)
  • Have intermediate Dutch skills at the start of the project (B1/B2 level minimum)
  • Have intermediate English language skills

In addition, we select participants based on their prior work experience, availability  and motivation. We give priority to unemployed candidates.
