Liselotte Siteur, student BSc Econometrics

'Econometrics is like doing extremely advanced puzzles'

Liselotte Steur - the Netherlands

'Thanks to the central location, the diverse range of programmes and the atmosphere, I got a good feeling about the UvA straight away. I chose the Econometrics programme as the combination with Actuarial Science greatly appealed to me. As you only have to choose your direction after the second year, you can take a very broad focus.'

'I am very happy with my decision. Econometrics is very challenging, incorporating a lot of mathematics applied to economics. Data analysis, programming and statistics suit me down to the ground. It's like doing extremely advanced puzzles. You can get stuck sometimes, but once I find that solution, I'm over the moon.'

Study association
'Besides my studies, I'm also an active member of the study association VSAE. For example, I was in the Sjaars Committee for first-year students and I contributed to the Actuarial Conference. I had a lot of fun. I am also a member of a theatre group. You meet lots of different people and it really adds an extra dimension to your academic experience.'

'After my Bachelor's programme, I will go straight into a Master's programme. I may do other ones after that too, but I'm not yet sure. During my Master's programme I would also like to work for a potential employer. Econometrics students receive a very broad education, so there are many positions suited to our skills. A whole world of future opportunities is open to me.'
