As a PPLE graduate, you will belong to the new generation of ‘interdisciplinary thinkers’. PPLE will provide you with a solid basis for a Master’s programme in the field of your specialisation, for example, as well as prepare you for your first steps on the labour market. PPLE alumni have taken up positions in, amongst others, public governance, private management and consultancy.

Master's programmes

After the successful completion of the PPLE programme, you will be qualified to apply for various Master’s degree programmes at universities in both the Netherlands and abroad. The type of Master’s programme you can pursue will depend on your chosen specialisation and personal interests. Examples of possible graduate programmes at the UvA include:

  • Master’s in International & European Law
  • Master’s in Labour Law
  • Master’s in Economics
  • Master’s in Public Policy & Governance
  • Research Master Psychology
  • Research Master Social Sciences

Labour market

A well-rounded scholar has significant value on the labour market. Employers are looking for people who can combine specialised knowledge with a broad outlook. The PPLE programme can lead to careers in the fields of governance and management, policy and consultancy, education, and research and development. Examples are:

  • You start as an economic or legal policy adviser at De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), the Public Prosecutor or Financial Markets Authority (AFM). You can then grow towards a position as a specialist in governance and integrity at DNB, AFM or the European Central Bank. You are responsible for developments in the area of governance and supervision of pension funds, banks and insurers and their trade associations.
  • You are an adviser in an international consulting firm such as McKinsey & Company or Booz Allen Hamilton. You are responsible for consulting and change management in the public or private sector on a national or international level.
  • You are a team coordinator or department head within a ministry, county, municipality, hospital or nationalised bank. You have a vision on new organisational forms and government, and you can translate this to your organisation and its further development.
  • You may be the grant holder in the Directorate General JRC (Joint Research Centre) of the European Union, research officer at the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe or researcher at a university or related research institution. You are responsible for initiating and executing economic, legal and/or social science research.
