‘The reason that I want to do this Master’s lies in its unique combination of two disciplines. The prospect of combining deep legal knowledge with a sound grasp of finance I see as a huge asset.’

‘My participation in the master programme of Law & Finance validated the expectations I had as a law student to familiarise myself with basic financial concepts, as well as with modern economic issues and topics. The mix of law and finance gave me the opportunity to think ‘out of the box’ and the financial knowledge I gained has boosted my confidence to confront the ‘fear’ every lawyer has when asked to work with numbers! Most importantly, this master programme opened new career opportunities for me, increasing my understanding on how the business world and financial system works.’

‘The programme’s challenging curriculum, combining law and finance, sets this Master’s apart from other programmes. It gives me a unique position and clear advantage on the jobs market.’

Alessio Pacces

Professor Alessio Pacces

Programme director Law & Finance

‘I moved to the University of Amsterdam in October 2018 to lead the Master in Law & Finance and the Amsterdam Center for Law & Economics. These unique programmes are joint initiatives of the Amsterdam Law School and the Amsterdam Business School. I joined these two faculties after 12 years at the Erasmus University Rotterdam where, as director of the European Master in Law and Economics, I secured three rounds of EU funding and scholarships under the Erasmus+:Erasmus Mundus programme. Yet, I believe that change is necessary to maintain vision. Prior to moving to academia, I worked for about a decade in policymaking. Teaching and research at the intersection between law, economics, and finance has been the professional passion of my life. I have been invited to speak by policy institutions such as the European Commission, the OECD, and the ECB, and had visiting positions at Berkeley, Columbia, Haifa, and LUISS, among others.’
