This minor is interesting for students who like to obtain:

• knowledge of the key concepts and theoretical debates in gender and sexuality studies,
• knowledge of the political, societal and scientific legacies of gender/sexuality-focused activism;
• basic knowledge of the central methodological debates and challenges in the field;
• analytical skills to critically study and interpret historical or present day, political and societal problems through gender, sexuality and intersectional lenses,
• the ability to apply gender, sexuality and/or intersectional lenses in the own major.

This minor may serve as a good preparation for academic Bachelor’s students who want to apply for admission to the Master's programme in Sociology. Always check the entry requirements of the Master’s programme you are interested in.

Entry Requirements

• You can apply for this minor if you are a Bachelor’s student and have obtained at least 60 ECTS from 
  university-level courses at the time of application.
• A completed first year of applied sciences (HBO) does not grant access to the minor.

Application and Admission

The registration period for a minor in Semester 2 of the academic year 2025-2026 is 13 October - 7 November 2025.

You are guaranteed placement if you apply and meet the entry requirements. There is no limit on the number of places.

Non-UvA-students: This minor is part of the degree programme Interdisciplonaire sociale wetenschap. For your registration as an elective student, select the ‘Interdisciplinaire sociale wetenschap’ - elective degree programme in Studielink.

NB: Only Non-UvA students need to upload a transcript of grades.
