Join us for an immersive summer school, and explore the multifaceted concept of bias across various levels of description: from perceptual biases and memory distortions to societal prejudices and stereotypes. During the 10-day full-time programme (June 15 – 25) students will have the opportunity to attend lectures from top experts, who will bridge the divide between fundamental science, clinical practise, and society.
Our interdisciplinary approach will examine how biases manifest in the human brain, influence cognitive processes like decision-making and memory, go awry in clinical disorders, and shape social interactions. We will also investigate the implementation of biases in artificial intelligence, particularly in large language models (LLMs), and discuss the ethical implications of these biases in technology and society. Through lectures, hands-on workshops, and collaborative projects, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying bias and develop strategies to mitigate its impact.
This summer school promises to be an intellectually stimulating experience, fostering critical thinking and promoting innovative research in cognitive neuroscience. The summer school culminates in an International Symposium. Don't miss this opportunity to engage with leading experts, expand your knowledge, and contribute to the ongoing discourse on bias in brains, minds, and societies. This summer school is organised by dr. Jan Willem de Gee (SILS, University of Amsterdam) and prof. dr. David Amodio (Social Psychology, University of Amsterdam).
Where: The summer school will take place at Amsterdam Roeterseiland Campus.
When: 15 - 25 June 2026
