To register for Open UvA Courses, use the application form and follow the steps below. If you are already enrolled in Open UvA Courses and would like to register for additional courses, please go directly to step 9 of this guide: ‘Reregistering for courses’.
  • 1. Find the course in the Course Catalogue

The complete overview of courses that are available through Open UvA Courses can be found in the Course Catalogue. Go to ‘Courses’ and use the filter ‘Faculty of Law’ and ‘Open UvA Course’ on the left. To find Bachelor’s courses, use the filter ‘Level’ and select ‘First-year’ or ‘Advanced’. For Master’s courses, select ‘Master’.

You can find the schedule on the UvA timetable website.

Please note: schedules may still be subject to change.

  • 2. Check the entry requirements

    Bachelor's course

There are a limited number of Bachelor’s courses offered in English, as our Bachelor of Laws programmes are taught primarily in Dutch. To check whether you meet the entry requirements, please contact us via ouc-fdr@uva.nl.

    Master's course

If you wish to take a Master’s course, check whether you are admissible to the full Master’s programme of the course you want to take. Select your programme in the overview of Master’s programmes to see if you meet the entry requirements.

  • 3. Check the deadlines

It is recommended to register for Open UvA Courses as soon as possible, but no later than:

    • 1 June 2026 (for semester 1)
    • 23 November 2026 (for semester 2)

If you miss the deadline, you can still register up to 3 weeks before the course starts. However, keep in mind that courses may already be full by then.
Applications submitted after that will not be processed.

  • 4. Complete the online application form

If you want to register for Open UvA Courses, please fill in the digital form below. First, create an account, under the ‘create account’ tab. Please note: if you already have a  an UvAnetID, you do not use it to fill in the digital application form; you must create a separate account.

    * A certified copy is a copy of an original document bearing an official certification stamp and a signature or initials from the institution that issued the document. This can be obtained from the institution where you earned your diploma.

Note: after your application, the UvA will register you for the course. You will receive a confirmation of this (see step 8).
