The fee to enrol in a course via Open UvA Courses is based on the course’s EC credits*. Bachelor’s and Master’s courses are subject to different fee schedules. Books, travel expenses, etc. are not included in tuition.
*EC stands for European Credit. Since the introduction of the Bachelor’s/Master’s system (in the Netherlands, in 2002 – 2003), study loads have been expressed in terms of European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System credits (ECTS), which facilitates the comparison of course credit obtained internationally. An academic year (1680 hours of study) is the equivalent of 60 ECTS credits. One credit, therefore, represents 28 hours of study.
On the registration form, you can indicate whether you wish to pay by means of a one-time authorisation or by invoice.
If you opt for a one-time authorisation, the course fees due will be directly debited from your account as soon as the registration has been processed. If you wish to pay by invoice, you (or your employer) will receive an invoice as soon as the registration has been processed.
You will receive a digital proof of payment as soon as we have received the course fees due.
You will be charged an administrative fee of € 50 if you indicate in writing no later than 1 week before the start of the course that you wish to cancel the contract. After that point, the contract can no longer be terminated and the full tuition fee is due.
The Faculty Administration issues a certificate as proof that you have passed the examination.
If you fail the exam, you can take it again at the next resit. These are, however, the only two opportunities to sit the exam (and thus obtain a certificate).
