At the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG), we create and share knowledge for and with society. We work with a range of government partners, such as the City of Amsterdam and the Municipal Public Health Service (GGD), as well as planning agencies, ministries and European institutions. Below you’ll find some great examples of the societal impact of our research. Feel free to get in touch.
Living with technology and AI
We work with technology partners, healthcare organisations, local authorities and businesses to develop AI applications grounded in human behaviour and social values – helping organisations deploy technology responsibly and understand its impact on human behaviour and social processes.
Resilient democracy and security of existence
We work with local authorities, government departments and civil society organisations on issues of trust in public institutions, disinformation and social tensions. We identify what people need to participate fully in society and how policy can help build a world where everyone feels seen and heard.
Cities built for the future
Working with urban data, participation processes and design-led research, we help cities develop policies that are responsive to residents’ needs and the dynamics of urban systems, from climate adaptation and housing to social cohesion and mental health.
Mental well-being and behaviour: from youth to adulthood
We work with schools, healthcare organisations, local authorities and social organisations to develop evidence-based solutions that work in practice. We identify which factors build resilience and which interventions are most effective for different groups.
