The Working Holiday Scheme (WHS) is a cultural exchange programme or scheme (WHP or WHS) for young people aged 18 to 30 from participating countries. The main goal of the programme is to become acquainted with Dutch culture and society. During your stay, you will be allowed to follow a short study/course.

The participating countries are Argentina, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, Uruguay. Important to know is that some of these countries have a maximum amount of students per year whom may be granted a WHS.

Please note that you will need to apply for the WHS yourself directly at the IND, but that you will need to inform the UvA’s Immigration Office of your decision to apply for the WHS instead of a student residence permit. This can be done through the immigration invitation you will receive before the start of your study programme.

For more information and requirements, please visit the IND website.
