Aïda Paalman-de Miranda was one of the first two female professors of Mathematics in the Netherlands. She was an inspiring professor of pure mathematics with a heart for education and students. In her honour the Aïda Paalman-de Miranda Scholarship programme was launched, welcoming students of Anton de Kom Universiteit van Suriname for a study abroad period at UvA's Faculty of Science.
