The University of Amsterdam is the only university in Benelux that teaches Catalan. This minor is particularly interesting for students of Linguistics; European Studies; Language and Communication; Languages in general (particularly Spanish); and also students from other fields of study who want to learn about Catalan language and culture. They will add a valuable extra dimension to their understanding of how languages work, of Romance languages in particular, and enhance their skills for communication.

Doing a language minor takes a considerable amount of effort. Besides attending the intensive lectures, you will also spend ample time on self-study and on the preparation of tests related to vocabulary, listening skills and grammar, even if you have prior knowledge of the language.

This minor is offered by the Faculty of Humanities. The faculty’s minors consist of 30 ECTS credits and earn you a second qualification that will be listed on the transcript accompanying your degree certificate.
