Frequently asked questions

  • I have completed "name of a study programme", do I have to do a pre-Master's first?

That is always viewed and assessed per person. If you want to be sure, sign up. The admission officers will let you know if you need to do a pre-Master. Three things are considered:

    • Do you have knowledge of the most important theories in communication science?
    • Do you have knowledge in statistics?
    • Do you know how to write an empirical paper?

If you answered “no” to one of the questions, chances are that you will have to follow (part of) the pre-Master.

Hence, students with a Bachelor’s degree obtained at a university of applied sciences (HBO) or equivalent cannot be admitted to the (pre-) Master’s.  They may opt for taking the short-track Bachelor's programme at the College of Communication first to meet the criteria and then re-apply. This short-track Bachelor’s (verkorte Bachelor) is taught in English and Dutch.

  • What are my job opportunities when I finish the Research Master's programme?

The two-year Research Master’s programme qualifies graduates for jobs in which analytical rigor and research are central. For more information, visit the Careers webpage.

  • Can I change tracks later on in the Research Master's programme?

No, this is not possible as we have to organise the educational logistics. However, if you have severe personal/special circumstances, you can come to see the study advisers and discuss your situation.

  • Will I be supported in finding an internship?

Partially, there will be a database of companies, but you have to contact them yourself, apply and network.
