New independent exchange students can follow the instructions below to enrol at UvA EB. The information below covers a number of aspects such as application, course registration, housing, visa requirements and more.

Step 1: fill in the application form

Independent students can apply for a place in the Economics and Business Exchange Programme through the application form at the link below. Find out more about the documents you need to submit and the application deadlines.

Step 2: Submit participation agreement/ pay first instalment of tuition fee after your acceptance

When you are accepted, it is necessary to confirm your application as an independent exchange student by signing the Participation Agreement and by making a down payment of €100 (first instalment tuition fee), so that we can start making arrangements for you such as housing and visa (if applicable). Read more about how to submit the participation agreement and pay the first instalment.

Step 3: Apply for housing

As in many major European cities, the demand for reasonably priced housing in Amsterdam is very high. Affordable housing available to UvA students is therefore limited. Students in general are advised to start looking for accommodation as early as possible. For our international students, each year we reserve a range of furnished accommodation in Amsterdam with different housing corporations. Find out more about how you can apply for accommodation.

Step 4: Apply for your visa (if necessary)

If you are from outside the EU / EEA or Switzerland, you will need a visa and/or residence permit to study in The Netherlands. Which one you will need depends on your nationality. Find out more about your visa requirements.

Step 5: make insurance arrangements

Please check before you come to the Netherlands whether your insurance will cover the complete period of your stay abroad, and what type of coverage it consists of. Please note that insurance is mandatory and you are required by law to have appropriate health insurance for the duration of your stay in the Netherlands. Find out more about your insurance arrangements.

Step 6: Course registration

In June (fall semester students) and November (spring semester students) we will send you an e-mail containing important information regarding the course registration procedure at UvA Economics and Business. Find out more about course registration for international exchange students at EB.

Step 7: Pay the rest of the tuition fee

Free movers (independent exchange students) are required to pay a tuition fee. Find out more about the fees and how to carry out payment.

Step 8: compose your personal timetable

Exchange students are expected to compose their personal timetable themselves. Use the link below for more information about timetables and links to the timetable system.

Step 9: Attend the Exchange Programme Introduction Day

Kickstart your university exchange life at the UvA and in Amsterdam with the ESN Introduction Week and the Exchange Programme's (academic) Introduction Day. Please note that attending the Exchange Programme's Introduction Day is compulsory.
