Students come to the Faculty of Science with a range of motivations. These may include an intrinsic interest in fundamental scientific questions, a desire to work on smart applications of scientific knowledge, or the wish to contribute to the major societal challenges of our time. The faculty aims to respond to these motivations with a diversified portfolio of degree programmes.

Vision for Education

The FNWI’s educational vision places great importance on training students in the use of modern equipment and complex data analysis, and on ensuring they are accustomed to working in (interdisciplinary) teams. The Science Park campus is designed to make this possible, with practical teaching laboratories across various disciplines. In addition, the building offers excellent facilities for independent study and group-work preparation.
These organisational units help make education at the FNWI possible:

Collaboration with VU

By joining forces with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) in various programmes, the Faculty of Science can offer students in Amsterdam more options in elective courses, specialisations, and graduation projects. Beyond the shared joint-degree programmes, collaboration allows programmes to differentiate more effectively and reduce overlap. In this way, every science student in Amsterdam has a wide range of options for shaping their own study programme.
