Switch from another educational institution
Do you already have a residence permit for study from another Dutch educational institution? And do you wish to study at the UvA? Then, the UvA Immigration team will need to send a new application to the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) to transfer your current residence permit to our university. A so-called ‘change of educational institution’ application.

How to start?
If you are switching from another institution, there are certain conditions you need to fulfil before you can start the immigration process. You can find more information about these conditions on our Need to know webpage.
Once you have met the conditions to start the immigration application, you will receive an invitation by email to start the process. First, you will be linked to MyInfo, where you can upload the required documents. Then, the UvA Immigration team will review your documents and submit the application to the IND on your behalf. The procedure takes about 1 to 2 months. We will keep you informed by email about its progress.
Will I receive a new residence permit card?
You will continue to use the same residence permit card during and after the ‘change of educational institution application’. Your current residence permit will remain valid until the expiration date on your card. Therefore, you will not receive a new residence permit card once the application has been completed.

The deadline to submit your ‘change of educational institution’ application is 1 August 2024.

Will I receive a new residence permit card?
You will receive a new residence permit card after the change of educational institution application has been completed. We will inform you by email on how to submit your biometrics, if required, and how to collect your new residence permit card.
