Program

The Executive Master in Health Informatics typically takes two years to complete, depending on your study pace.

The program consists of five core courses and one elective course. You will conclude your studies with a capstone project, which includes a research proposal and a master’s thesis.

All courses are delivered fully online and can be completed independently of each other. The flexible structure allows you to combine your studies with work and other commitments, while still following a clear and well-organized learning path.

Study mode and structure

The master’s program is offered in both Dutch and English. The curriculum includes short instructional videos, interactive assignments, case studies, and online discussions. You will work both individually and in small groups on practice-oriented assignments, receiving personalized feedback from instructors.

The program is grounded in scientific theories, illustrated with cases from the European healthcare context. You will connect theoretical insights to challenges from your own professional environment, making your learning directly relevant and applicable.

Assessment

Each course contains one or more assessments, such as a written exam and/or assignments in which you will analyze a practice-oriented case (e.g. related to your work place), develop your findings, and defend your analysis orally. A sufficient passing grade is required for all assessments.

Degree

Upon successful completion of the program, you will receive a legally and internationally recognized Master’s degree in Health Informatics and earn the title Master of Science (MSc).

Elective Course

In Year 1, Period 5, you will take an elective course. You can choose either Strategic Information Management or another course of your choice that aligns with the field of Health Informatics.

If you wish to take a course outside the program, specific conditions apply for external elective courses.
For the detailed requirements, please refer to the Education and Examination Regulations (below).

Research proposal and Thesis

In Year 2, you will work on a research proposal and a thesis. You select a research topic related to the subjects covered in the Health Informatics program, based on your own interests and/or its relevance to your work setting. This way, the results of your research can directly contribute to professional practice.

You will be guided by a faculty member with expertise in your chosen research area.

Where Knowledge Translates into Practice

You will be taught by academic experts who are actively engaged in scientific research. They will guide you through the latest developments in the field and demonstrate how innovative techniques and methods are applied in practice. In addition, industry professionals deliver guest lectures, giving you insight into current challenges in the sector and exposing you to a variety of real-world perspectives.
